I LOVE chocolate cakes and I’ve been obsessed with bundt pans since I first discovered them, so the moment I finally put my hands on one it was absolutely clear what my first bundt cake will be. Yep, you guessed it – a chocolate cake! *Cue the heavenly choir music*
Now, let me tell you, this moist and decadent chocolate cake is no joke. The number of compliments I received for this cake is overwhelming, and to think this is one of the easiest cake recipes I ever made is straight-up incredible. But I can assure you, this cake lives up to the promise!
It’s time to unleash your inner cake maestro and embark on a chocolatey adventure that will make you feel like a baking superstar! I’ve got to warn you though, this cake will have you become the new cake dealer in town, as constant requests for cake will be flooding at every gathering!
What does this cake taste like?
This bundt cake is moist, rich, and chocolatey – a supreme delight for any chocolate lover like me. The cake crumb is soft, tender, and light, with a texture that almost melts in your mouth. It is hands down one of the best bake from scratch chocolate cakes I ever had. And bonus point, it’s the kind of cake that you can eat on its own, without any toppings or frosting, and still feel completely satisfied. But personally I love pairing it up with a Salty Caramel Sauce that brings out its flavor and completes it to perfection!
Why should you make this recipe?
- It’s an easy homemade cake that requires no fancy techniques or equipment whatsoever!
- This recipe uses simple ingredients that you probably already have lying in your pantry.
- The taste! This cake is so soft and moist, that it simply melts in your mouth.
- It’s a versatile recipe that can be served plain or dressed up with frosting, glaze, or fruits. My personal favorite topping is a Salted Caramel Sauce, for which you can find the recipe here.
Ingredients
Flour – Flour gives structure and texture to the cake. For this recipe, I used all-purpose flour, but you can also use cake flour if you want. Just make sure not to use self-rising flour, as it has added salt and leavening mixed into it, which is not needed for this recipe.
Sugar – Sweetens the cake and makes it moist. This cake is not very sweet, which makes it an especially great option to share with kids.
Baking soda – Baking soda is the main leavening agent in this chocolate cake. It helps the cake rise and creates a light and tender crumb.
Salt – Salt brings out all the wonderful flavors of the cake, so make sure not to skip it!
Butter – Adds richness and contributes to the cake’s moistness. I used unsalted butter, you can easily swap it for salted butter, case in which make sure to omit the salt.
Water – The water needs to be very hot in order to dissolve and allow the cocoa powder to bloom. This will result in a rich chocolate flavour that makes this cake so special!
Cocoa powder – I used regular unsweetened cocoa powder, but you can sub it for Dutch processed as well.
Greek yogurt – Greek yogurt enhances the tenderness of the cake and it makes it extra moist.
Eggs – Eggs are super important in this recipe as they give the moisture and structure needed for this bundt cake to turn out perfect.
Vanilla extract – The vanilla extract enhances the taste and gives the cake an amazing flavour.Almond extract – Gives an extra boost to the flavour, but if you don’t have it in your pantry, you can sub it for another teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Tips for recipe success
- All your ingredients should be brought to room temperature before you start baking. This will ensure that they will all mix together well and not separate.
- Even when using a non-stick pan, it’s highly recommended to oil spray and dust the pan.
- Do not skip the salt! Salt really helps bring out all the flavors in this cake, making it absolutely irresistible!
