Day 4 of 12 Days of Christmas Desserts, and we’re keeping the festive fun alive with these Jam & Nutella Puff Pastry Cookies! If you’re looking for a dessert that’s both exciting and effortless, this is it.
Remember the puff pastry tree from earlier? These cookies are like the mini version—cute, bite-sized, and just as delicious. Using cookie cutters, you can create beautiful, unique shapes that make these treats look like they took hours when they’re actually a breeze to prepare.
The combination of rich chocolate spread and fruity jam, paired with the buttery flakiness of puff pastry, is simply irresistible. Add a sprinkle of pistachios and a dusting of powdered sugar, and you’ve got a show-stopping holiday dessert!
What makes these Puff Pastry Cookies so great?
Combination of jam and nuts is always great, not to mention pistachio and chocolate which is my personal favorite
They are super easy to whip up since we use store bought puff pastry
Why you’ll love this recipe
- So easy: No advanced baking skills required!
- Kid-friendly: A perfect recipe to make with little helpers.
- Show-stopping looks: They look fancy but are so simple to prepare.
- Delicious flavors: Sweet, buttery, nutty, and chocolatey—what more could you want?
Ingredients
Puff Pastry: The foundation of these cookies—store-bought makes it quick and easy.
Jam: Choose your favorite; strawberry is classic, but raspberry or apricot work too.
Chocolate Spread: Nutella or any chocolate-hazelnut spread adds richness.
Egg: For brushing, to give that golden, flaky finish.
Pistachios: Finely chopped for a festive crunch.
Powdered Sugar: For a simple glaze to add a sweet touch.
Milk: To thin out the glaze.
Optional Toppings: Sprinkles, orange zest, or extra chopped nuts for decoration.
Tips for recipe success
- One thing to keep in mind: not all cookies will hold their shape perfectly after baking. Puff pastry has a tendency to puff up (as it should!), which can blur some details. To avoid disappointment, stick to simple cookie cutter shapes—for me trees and Christmas socks worked best. The result will still be festive and charming, without the frustration of watching delicate designs lose their definition in the oven!
- Work with chilled pastry: Keep your puff pastry cold before working with it; warm pastry can be sticky and harder to handle.
- Don’t overfill: A little jam and Nutella goes a long way—too much filling can leak out during baking.
- Use sharp cookie cutters: This ensures clean shapes and better sealing.
- Customize toppings: Get creative with sprinkles, orange zest, or even edible glitter for extra festive flair.
