Super Easy Cookie Sticks Covered in Melted Chocolate | 12 Days of Christmas Desserts Day #3

Day 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas Desserts is here, and I couldn’t be more excited to share my recipe for The Easiest Cookie Sticks Covered in Melted Chocolate

These sugar cookies are everything—buttery, zesty, and dripping with melted chocolate, topped with nuts for that perfect holiday glow-up. Festive never tasted so good!

They embody the Christmas spirit perfectly—soft, nostalgic, and sooo delicious. Trust me, they’ll teleport you back to your favorite childhood Christmas memories. Plus, they’re fun to make and even more fun to share!

What I love most about these cookies is their versatility. You can get as creative as you like with the toppings, swapping pistachios for hazelnuts or trying out different types of chocolate—dark, milk, or white.

Although they’re super easy to make, these cookies do require a little patience while the dough chills. But don’t worry—60 minutes is more than enough, and the end result is 100% worth it. Whether you’re baking with the family, preparing for a holiday party, or simply treating yourself, these cookie sticks are guaranteed to become a festive favorite.

What makes these Sugar Cookie Sticks so great?

These cookies are a festive delight, combining the citrusy zing of lemon and orange zest with a buttery base that evokes nostalgic holiday charm. The texture is equally amazing, with the soft bite of the cookie perfectly balanced by the crunch of chopped nuts and the smoothness of melted chocolate.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • It’s simple, yet impressive. With minimal effort, you’ll create cookies that look and taste like they came from a high-end bakery.
  • They’re super customizable. Mix and match your favorite chocolates and nuts for endless combinations.
  • Perfectly nostalgic. These cookies evoke warm memories of holidays past, making them a heartwarming treat for the whole family.
  • It’s a kid-friendly recipe. These sugar cookies are not overly sweet, so they’re a great option for little ones to enjoy, too.

Ingredients

All-purpose flour – Stick with all-purpose flour for the best results. Self-rising flour will add leavening, causing your cookies to spread—and we want them to hold their shape beautifully.

Cornstarch – The key to super tender, melt-in-your-mouth cookies.

Salt – Enhances all the flavors and balances the sweetness—don’t skip it!

Softened Butter – Make sure it’s softened ahead of time so it creams perfectly with the sugar.

Sugar – These cookies are intentionally not overly sweet since the chocolate adds extra sweetness. If you like things on the sweeter side, feel free to add up to 20g more.

Egg – Room temperature eggs are essential for smooth mixing and even baking.

Vanilla Extract – Adds a warm, aromatic layer of flavor that complements the citrus beautifully.

Lemon & Orange Zest – Brings a bright, citrusy kick that’s unmistakably festive.

Chocolate – Melted for dipping—dark, milk, white, or go wild with a combo.

Nuts – Finely chopped pistachios, hazelnuts, or your favorite variety for topping.

Tips for recipe success

  • Chill the dough. Don’t skip this step! Chilling makes the dough easier to handle and helps the cookies hold their shape during baking.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, you can slightly reduce the sugar or use darker chocolate for dipping.
  • Get creative with toppings! Sprinkle the cookies with crushed candy canes, edible glitter, or even a drizzle of caramel for an extra-special touch.
  • Work quickly with the melted chocolate. After dipping the cookies, sprinkle the nuts while the chocolate is still wet so it adheres properly.

These buttery Chocolate Cookie Sticks are packed with citrusy lemon and orange zest, dipped in chocolate, and sprinkled with nuts. They’re fun to make, delicious to eat, and bring a little extra joy to your holiday season!

Ingredients

  • 240g flour

  • 20g cornstarch

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 115g softened butter

  • 100g sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • Zest of 1 orange

  • 75g dark, milk or white chocolate (or a mix)

  • Pistachio or other nuts, finely chopped (for topping)

Directions

  • In a bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer, about 1-2 min.
  • Add the egg and mix until it’s well incorporated.
  • Add vanilla extract and zests and mix until combined.
  • Pour in the dry ingredients in 3 parts, mixing between each addition.
  • Using your hands, form the dough into a round ball and tightly wrap it in plastic foil. Place in the fridge for a minimum of 1h.
  • Once the dough is ready, preheat the oven to 190C/375F and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1 cm thick. Cut the dough into thin sticks using a sharp knife.
  • Arrange the sticks on the prepared baking tray, leaving a little space between each one.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges just start to turn golden.
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  • Dip one end of each cookie stick into the melted chocolate, or for a different look, transfer the melted chocolate to a piping bag and drizzle it over the sticks. For added variety, try using both white and milk chocolate—it’s twice as delicious!
  • While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with chopped pistachios or your favorite nuts. Lay the cookie sticks on parchment paper or on a cooling rack to set.
  • Once the chocolate sets, they’re ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe yields about 30 cookie sticks.
  • Feel free to use flavored chocolate (e.g., orange or mint) for a unique twist.
  • For a festive look, add edible glitter, colored sprinkles, or crushed candy canes instead of nuts!
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to a month.
